Municipality of Schiedam

In the municipality of Schiedam, large underground concrete pits are used to house steel waste containers. These pits form a vital part of the city’s waste infrastructure but are constantly exposed to moisture, heavy loads and aggressive substances.
Over time, the concrete surfaces began to deteriorate. Acids from household waste attacked the concrete walls, leading to erosion and structural damage. Without treatment, this would result in costly repairs and shorter service life. The municipality needed a sustainable solution for concrete repair and protection against acids.
The pits were first thoroughly pressure-cleaned to prepare the substrate. Then, a full AllShield CreteShield concrete coating system was applied:
A base layer of CreteShield sprayed directly on the cleaned concrete.
Reinforcement with glass fleece for crack resistance and additional strength.
A final top layer of CreteShield to create a seamless, acid-resistant mineral barrier.
This system not only repaired the damaged concrete but also provided long-term protection against acids and moisture ingress.
The concrete container pits in Schiedam are now fully restored and protected. The new acid-resistant concrete coating extends the lifespan of the pits, reduces maintenance costs, and ensures reliable long-term performance. With AllShield CreteShield, the municipality achieved sustainable concrete repair, coating, and protection against acids in one integrated solution.
Now the waste containers do'nt become waste them selves!
