The roof was treated with AllShield Blue, a mineral-based white reflective coating. This coating sealed and protected the aging bitumen surface, preventing deterioration and avoiding the need for a full tear-off. The reflective properties of AllSHield Blue also help reduce heat absorption, which lowers indoor temperatures during warm periods and reduces the building’s energy demand.
An important part of the project was preparing the roof for future solar panel installation. With untreated bitumen or EPS insulation, fire risk is a concern, especially under PV systems. By applying AllShield Blue, Castelijn now has a non-combustible surface layer. This ensures that in case of a small fire, ignition and fire spread are prevented, making the roof safe and insurable for solar use.
Extension of the bitumen roof’s lifespan without replacement
Avoidance of construction waste
Improved thermal performance and lower energy costs
Non-combustible surface suitable for future solar panels
Improved compliance with insurance and fire safety requirements
With the application of AllShield Blue, Castelijn has secured its 4,400 m² roof for the long term. The project demonstrates how existing roofs can be upgraded quickly and efficiently, combining sustainability, cost savings, and fire protection in one solution. This positions Castelijn for a greener and safer future, with a roof ready to support solar energy production.
The white color of AllShield Blue makes the workplace much cooler than before.
