We have two FM Approved solutions for making roofs with photovoltaic systems fire-safe and insurable: AllShield Blue and the AllShield BarrierSheet. The best choice depends on your roof situation.
If you are working with an existing roof and want a retrofit solution without removing the current roof build-up, then AllShield Blue is typically the right choice. AllShield Blue is a mineral roof coating and the world’s first to be FM Approved under both FM 4484 and FM 4482, for flat roofs with or without solar panels. It is designed to upgrade combustible roof systems into fire-safe, insurable PV roofs with minimal added weight.
If the roof membrane is ageing, roof load is critical, extra insulation is required, or a liquid-applied coating is just not the preferred solution, the AllShield BarrierSheet is often the better option. The BarrierSheet is a lightweight, non-combustible mineral cover board installed beneath the roof membrane and is FM 4478 Approved for roofs with photovoltaic systems.
AllShield Blue is applied as a seamless, ceramic top-layer coating over the existing waterproofing membrane. Its non-combustible composition blocks heat and flame from penetrating to the insulation and roof structure. Even in case of fire in a solar panel, the underlying materials do not ignite, preventing spread to adjacent panels. Fire stays localized and extinguishes quickly, often without intervention — making even uninsurable roofs safe for PV systems.
Application is straightforward and weather-dependent. A certified team can cover up to 450 m² per day using standard spraying equipment. No open roof is needed — the coating is applied directly on top of existing waterproofing. After curing, it forms a 3 mm seamless, fireproof layer with a 50+ year lifespan and built-in UV resistance.
AllShield Blue can be used on both new constructions and existing flat roofs that are still watertight. For older roofs, a primer ensures strong adhesion. The coating can be removed and reused, making it a sustainable choice. It is suitable for roofs with slopes up to 15°.
AllShield Blue has been extensively tested and certified to meet the highest international standards. It holds the following certifications:
→ Tested and listed on FM RoofNav.
→ Protects flat roofs with PV against external fire spread.
→ Tested and listed on FM RoofNav.
→ Suitable for non-combustible roof maintenance applications.
→ Tested for wind uplift resistance at Kiwa-BDA.
→ Proven to stay securely attached under storm wind loads.
→ A1 Non combustable certification.
→ Caloric bomb test.

Protecting what matters. Fire safety is the goal. Insurability the result. Our projects with AllShield Blue show how that promise becomes reality across sectors, applications and environments.
Yes. AllShield Blue is FM 4484 Approved, the Approval Standard for Retrofit Coatings for Roof-Mounted Rigid Photovoltaic Module Systems – the highest international FM Approval for roof fire safety.
It also holds FM 4482 Class 1 Approved for repair and maintenance coatings.
A1-certified mineral composition. No plastics. No PFAS. It doesn’t ignite, melt or drip.
Yes. It stops ignition and spread under PV panels and has been tested at Kiwa-BDA for NEN 7250:2021 conditions, ZAG and FM 4484 in summer 2025.
Sprayed or rolled at 2–3 mm thickness over bitumen, PVC or EPDM membranes.
Some roofing manufacturers may withdraw warranty. Always check with them before applying AllShield Blue.
No. The roof has to be watertight. It adds fire protection and it’snot a leak fix.
It is resistant to industrial acids like sulfuric and nitric acid — suitable for chemical zones.
Tested for >50 years of service life. Comes with a 10-year product warranty.
Works well on roofs with EPS, PIR, PUR insulationthe AllShield Blue covers the watertight roofing membrane and protect the underlayeing layers and building.
